Legislative Texts Data
Download legislation as data grouped by version (from as original as enacted to most recent), legislation type (Primary and Secondary legislation, including legislation originating from the EU), data format, and year.
Statute Book Metadata
Download data about how legislation has changed. The amendments data contains information about “effects” when one piece of legislation modifies or changes another.
What data is available?
Legislation.gov.uk carries most (but not all) types of legislation and their accompanying explanatory documents. All primary legislation from 1988 and all secondary legislation from 1987 is available on the website, along with legislation originating from the EU. The ’What data is available?' page provides more information on the extent and limitations of the data that is available.
What formats do you hold data in?
Legislation texts are available in a variety of formats including XML, HTML, plaintext and PDF. Although we are not currently able to make every document version available in every format. Statute Book Metadata is available as XML or CSV depending on the dataset. We hope to make more formats available in the future. The Data Formats section provides more information on the formats available, and which might be most useful for your purposes.
