The Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2025

The Secretary of State makes these Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 23 and 24(8) of Regulation (EC) No. 999/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council laying down rules for the prevention, control and eradication of certain transmissible spongiform encephalopathies.

In accordance with Article 23 of that Regulation, the Secretary of State has taken appropriate advice on any question which could have an impact on public health. In accordance with Article 24(9) of the same Regulation, the Secretary of State has ensured that the condition at Article 24(9)(a) is satisfied and has consulted such bodies or persons as appear to the Secretary of State to be representative of the interests likely to be substantially affected by these Regulations and such other bodies and persons as the Secretary of State considers appropriate.
Citation, commencement, extent and application

(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2025.
(2) These Regulations come into force on 1st April 2025.
(3) These Regulations extend to England and Wales, but apply in England only.
Amendment of Regulation (EC) No 999/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council laying down rules for the prevention, control and eradication of certain transmissible spongiform encephalopathies

(1) Regulation (EC) No 999/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council laying down rules for the prevention, control and eradication of certain transmissible spongiform encephalopathies is amended as follows.
(2) In Annex 7, Chapter B (measures following confirmation of the presence of a TSE in bovine, ovine and caprine animals)–
(a) omit point 2.2.3;
(b) in point 3.5(d), omit the words from “If” to the end;
(c) in point 4.6, omit the words from “If” to the end.
