The Government of Maintained Schools (Training Requirements for Governors) (Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2024

The Welsh Ministers, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 22(3) and (4) and 32(2) of the Education (Wales) Measure 2011, make the following Regulations.
Title, coming into force and interpretation

(1) The title of these Regulations is the Government of Maintained Schools (Training Requirements for Governors) (Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2024.
(2) These Regulations come into force on 9 September 2024.
(3) In these Regulations, “the 2013 Regulations” means the Government of Maintained Schools (Training Requirements for Governors) (Wales) Regulations 2013.
Amendments to the 2013 Regulations

(1) The 2013 Regulations are amended as follows.
(2) In regulation 2(1) (interpretation)—
(a) in the definition of “the chair training” for “in September 2013 and called “Content of the training for chairs of governors in Wales””, substitute “on the gov.wales website in July 2024 and called “Training for chairs of governors in Wales””, and
(b) in the definition of “the induction training” for “in September 2013 called “Content of induction training for governors in Wales””, substitute “on the gov.wales website in July 2024 and called “Induction training for school governors in Wales””.
(3) In regulation 3 (chair training), after paragraph (3) insert—“
(4) A local authority in Wales must secure the provision of the chair training, free of charge, to every chair of a governing body of a maintained school it maintains within the period set out in paragraph (1).”
(4) In regulation 4 (induction training), after paragraph (6) insert—“
(7) A local authority in Wales must secure the provision of the induction training, free of charge, to every governor of a maintained school it maintains within the period set out in paragraph (1).”
(5) In regulation 5 (school performance data training), after paragraph (6) insert—“
(7) A local authority in Wales must secure the provision of the school performance data training, free of charge, to every governor of a maintained school it maintains within the period set out in paragraph (1).”
Saving provisions
3 

(1) Nothing in these Regulations applies to—
(a) a chair of a governing body who completed the chair training required by regulation 3(1) of the 2013 Regulations before the coming into force of these Regulations, or
(b) a governor who completed the induction training required by regulation 4(1) of the 2013 Regulations before the coming into force of these Regulations. 
(2) In this regulation—
(a) “chair of a governing body” has the meaning given by regulation 2(1) of the 2013 Regulations;
(b) “a governor” has the meaning given by regulation 2(1) of the 2013 Regulations.
