The Police Pensions (Employer Contributions) (Amendment) Regulations 2024

The Secretary of State makes these Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 1(1) and (5) and 7(1) of the Police Pensions Act 1976 (“the 1976 Act”) and sections 2(1) (with paragraph 7 of Schedule 2) and 3(2)(a) (with paragraph 9 of Schedule 3), (3)(b) and (c) of the Public Service Pensions Act 2013 (“the 2013 Act”).In accordance with section 1(1) of the 1976 Act and section 3(5) of the 2013 Act, the Treasury has consented to the making of these Regulations.In accordance with section 1(1) of the 1976 Act the Secretary of State has consulted the Police Advisory Board for England and Wales and in accordance with section 1(1ZB) invited the views of the Northern Ireland Policing Board and the Police Association for Northern Ireland.In accordance with section 21(1) of the 2013 Act the Secretary of State has consulted the representatives of such persons as appear to the Secretary of State likely to be affected by these Regulations.
Citation, commencement, effect and extent

(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Police Pensions (Employer Contributions) (Amendment) Regulations 2024.
(2) These Regulations come into force on 1st October 2024 but have effect from 1st April 2024.
(3) These Regulations extend to England and Wales.
Amendments to the Police Pension Fund Regulations 2007

(1) The Police Pension Fund Regulations 2007 are amended in accordance with paragraphs (2) and (3).
(2) In regulation 5 (police pension authority contributions) paragraph (1), omit “at the rate of 31% of the pensionable pay of a regular police officer”.
(3 ) In regulation 12 (particular cases), omit paragraph (4).
Amendments to the Police Pensions Regulations 2015

(1) The Police Pensions Regulations 2015 are amended in accordance with paragraph (2).
(2) In regulation 174 (employer contributions)—
(a) in paragraph (1), for “the rate of 31% of the member’s annualised rate of pensionable earnings” substitute “a rate determined by the Secretary of State from time to time after consultation with the scheme actuary”;
(b) after paragraph (3), insert—“
(4) The Secretary of State must notify the scheme manager of the rate at which employer contributions are to be paid and the date from which the rate takes effect.”.
Revocation

The Police Pensions (Employer Contributions) (Amendment) Regulations 2019 are revoked.
