The Dorset (Electoral Changes) Order 2023

Coming into force in accordance with article 1(2) and (3)

Under section 92(2) of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007, Dorset Council (“the Council”) made recommendations in a review to the Local Government Boundary Commission for England for the related alteration of the boundaries of a number of district wards within the Council’s area.

The Local Government Boundary Commission for England has decided to give effect to the recommendations and makes the following Order in exercise of the power conferred by section 92(3) of that Act.
Citation, commencement, extent and application

(1) This Order may be cited as the Dorset (Electoral Changes) Order 2023.
(2) This article comes into force on the day after the day on which this Order is made.
(3) Article 2 comes into force—
(a) for the purpose of proceedings preliminary or relating to the election of councillors, on the day after the day on which this Order is made;
(b) for all other purposes, on the ordinary day of election of councillors in England in 2024.
(4) This Order extends to England and Wales but applies in relation to England only.
Alteration of district ward boundaries

(1) The area that ceases to be part of the parish of Chideock and becomes part of the parish of Symondsbury by virtue of the Dorset Council (Reorganisation of Community Governance) Order [No.4] 2023 (“the Order”) ceases to be part of the Marshwood Vale district ward and becomes part of the Bridport district ward.
(2) The area that ceases to be part of the parish of Netherbury and becomes part of the parish of Symondsbury by virtue of the Order ceases to be part of the Eggardon district ward and becomes part of the Bridport district ward.
(3) The area that ceases to be part of the parish of Loders and becomes part of the parish of Shipton Gorge by virtue of the Order ceases to be part of the Eggardon district ward and becomes part of the Chesil Bank district ward.
