This Order may be cited as the Academic Awards and Distinctions (University of the Highlands and Islands) (Scotland) Order of Council 2017 and comes into force on 8th June 2017.

In this Order—
 “the 2008 Order” means the Academic Awards and Distinctions (UHI Millennium Institute) (Scotland) Order of Council 2008;
 “the Act” means the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992; and
 “the University” means the University of the Highlands and Islands.

(1) The University is specified as competent to grant all degrees, diplomas, certificates or other academic awards or distinctions as may be granted in pursuance of section 48(2) and (3) of the Act.
(2) The date specified for the purposes of section 48(2)(a) of the Act is 8th June 2017.
(3) If the name of the University is changed under section 49 of the Act or under any other power, the competence to grant awards and distinctions arising from the specification in paragraph (1) continues to apply to the University as renamed.

The 2008 Order is revoked.
5 
The specification of the University by the 2008 Order continues to apply for the purpose of granting any award or distinction in respect of a course of study completed before the date specified in article 3(2).
