(1) This Order may be cited as the Health and Personal Social Services (2001 Act) (Commencement No. 1) Order (Northern Ireland) 2001.
(2) In this Order:
 “the Act” means the Health and Personal Social Services Act (Northern Ireland) 2001;
 “the Council” means the Northern Ireland Social Care Council.

(1) 1st June 2001 is the day appointed for the coming into operation of:
(a) section 1(1), (3) and (4) of, and Schedule 1 to, the Act (the establishment, and exercise of functions, of the Council);
(b) for the purpose only of the exercise of any power of the Council to make rules and prepare codes of practice, sections 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13 and 18 of the Act; and
(c) sections 2, 20, 21 and 22 of the Act (interpretation).
(2) The day appointed for the coming into operation of section 54(1) and (2) of the Act (public access to meetings of certain bodies), is 1st June 2001.
(3) The day appointed for the coming into operation of section 53 of the Act (regulations under section 11 of the Medical Act 1983) and section 55 of, and Schedule 3 to, the Act (sale of medical practices: goodwill), is 2nd July 2001.
(4) The day appointed for the coming into operation of the provisions of the Act set out in column 1 of the Schedule to this Order (the subject matter of each provision being set out in column (2)), is 2nd April 2001.
