These Regulations may be cited as the Legal Advice and Assistance (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 1999 and shall come into force on 1st September 1999.

In these Regulations, “the 1989 Regulations” means the Legal Advice and Assistance Regulations 1989, and a Regulation referred to by number alone means the Regulation so numbered in those Regulations.

In Regulation 3,
(a) after the definition of “Costs Regulations” the following shall be inserted:“
 “customs office” has the meaning assigned to it by article 2(1) of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (Application to Customs and Excise) Order 1985;
 “customs officer” means officer as defined in article 2(1) of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (Application to Customs and Excise) Order 1985;”
(b) in the definition of “volunteer”:
(i) the words “or a customs office” shall be inserted after “police station” each time it appears; and
(ii) the words “or customs officer” shall be inserted after “constable” each time it appears.
