(1) This Order may be cited as the Education (National Curriculum) (Attainment Targets and Programmes of Study in Technology) (Wales) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 31st August 1998.
(2) In this Order—
 “the Documents” means the Document published by Her Majesty’s Stationery Office in January 1995 entitled “Design and Technology in the National Curriculum” and the Document so published entitled “Information Technology in the National Curriculum”; and
 references to the first, second and third key stages are to the periods mentioned in paragraphs (a), (b) and (c) respectively of section 355(1) of the Education Act 1996.
(3) This Order applies only in relation to schools in Wales.

The Education (National Curriculum) (Attainment Targets and Programmes of Study in Technology) Order 1995 is hereby revoked so far as it applies to schools in Wales.

(1) Paragraph (2) below applies in relation to pupils in the first and second key stages at schools in Wales, but only in relation to the school years beginning in 1998 and 1999 respectively.
(2) It is hereby directed that the provisions relating to attainment targets and programmes of study set out in the Documents shall have effect for the purpose of specifying the attainment targets and programmes of study in relation to technology with, in the case of the Document entitled “Design and Technology in the National Curriculum”, the amendments specified in the Schedule.
(3) Paragraph (4) below applies—
(a) in relation to pupils in the first and second key stages at schools in Wales, but only in relation to school years beginning in or after 2000; and
(b) in relation to pupils in the third key stage at such schools (in relation to any school year).
(4) It is hereby directed that the provisions relating to attainment targets and programmes of study set out in the Documents shall have effect for the purpose of specifying attainment targets and programmes of study in relation to technology.

The examples printed in italics in the Documents (which serve to illustrate the programmes of study described therein) do not form part of the provision made by this Order.

(a) in paragraph 1, sub-paragraph c is omitted;
(b) in paragraph 2, sub-paragraphs b and c are omitted;
(c) in paragraph 3 (Designing Skills), sub-paragraphs a and f and the words “and by modelling their ideas in other ways e.g. by using actual materials and components with temporary fixings” in sub-paragraph d are omitted;
(d) in paragraph 4 (Making Skills), sub-paragraph e is omitted; and
(e) in paragraph 5 (Knowledge and Understanding), sub-paragraphs c, d and e and the words “as consumers and” in paragraph f are omitted.

In the section headed “KEY STAGE 2 PROGRAMME OF STUDY”—
 
(a) in paragraph 1, sub-paragraphs b and c are omitted;
(b) in paragraph 2, sub-paragraphs b and c and the words “including stiff and flexible sheet materials, that are suitable for making frameworks, mouldable materials, textiles, food, electrical and mechanical components and construction kits” in paragraph a are omitted;
(c) in paragraph 3 (Designing Skills), sub-paragraphs a, c and g are omitted;
(d) in paragraph 4 (Making Skills), sub-paragraphs d and g and the words “and suggesting alternative methods of making if first attempts fail” in paragraph e are omitted; and
(e) in paragraph 5 (Knowledge and Understanding), sub-paragraphs b, f, g, h and i are omitted.
