This Order may be cited as the Hertfordshire (Coroners' Districts) (Amendment) Order 1998.

(1) This Order shall come into force on 1st September 1998.
(2) This Order shall not have effect in relation to any inquest begun before the day on which it comes into force or to any post-mortem examination which, before that day, a coroner has directed or requested a medical practitioner to make.

The existing Hemel Hempstead coroner’s district and St. Albans-Watford coroner’s district shall be amalgamated to form a single coroner’s district called the West Hertfordshire coroner’s district.

(1) The Hertfordshire (Coroners' Districts) Order 1974 shall accordingly be amended as follows.
(2) In article 3, for the word “five” there shall be substituted the word “three”.
(3) In the Schedule, the entries relating to the Hemel Hempstead coroner’s district, the St. Albans coroner’s district and the Watford coroner’s district shall be omitted and, at the end–
(a) in column 1 (name of coroner’s district) there shall be added “West Hertfordshire coroner’s district”;
(b) in column 2 (area comprised in coroner’s district named in column 1), opposite that entry, there shall be added “The districts of Dacorum, Hertsmere, St. Albans, Three Rivers and Watford; in the district of Welwyn Hatfield the parishes of Northaw and North Mymms.”.
(4) The Hertfordshire (Coroners' Districts) (Amendment) Order 1974 is hereby revoked.
