These Regulations may be cited as the National Health Service (Vocational Training) Amendment Regulations 1997 and shall come into force on 1st January 1998.

In the National Health Service (Vocational Training) Regulations 1979, in regulation 2(1) (interpretation), for the definition of “trainee general practitioner” there shall be substituted the following definition—“
 “trainee general practitioner”—
(a) means a “General Practice (GP) Registrar”, as defined in regulations made under section 29 of the Act;
(b) in relation to Scotland and Northern Ireland, has the meaning assigned to it in regulations made, respectively, under section 19 of the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978 and article 56 of the Health and Personal Social Services (Northern Ireland) Order 1972; and
(c) includes a practitioner who is being trained in general practice under an arrangement approved by the Armed Services General Practice Approval Board;”.
