These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Individual Performance Information) (Identification of Individual Pupils) Regulations 1997 and shall come into force on 14th June 1997.

For the purposes of subsection (2) of section 537A of the Education Act 1996 (which provides that in that section “individual performance information” means information about the performance in certain assessments, examinations and qualifications of individual pupils identified in the prescribed manner) the manner of identification of individual pupils is hereby prescribed as being by—
(a) gender; and
(b) any one of the following—
(i) surname and initial or initials;
(ii) surname and first name or names; and
(iii) number or letter (or numbers or letters) or any combination of these, enabling the identity of the individual pupil to be ascertained by use of the appropriate key.
