These Regulations may be cited as the Local Government Act 1988 (Defined Activities) (Specified Periods) (Scotland) Regulations 1996 and shall come into force on 1st May 1996.

These Regulations (other than regulation 5 below) apply only to work to be carried out by a local authority in Scotland on or after 1st May 1996 in respect of the defined activities specified at section 2(2)(a), (b), (c), (d), (e), (ee), (f), (g), (gg) and (i) of the Local Government Act 1988.

The second condition, set out in section 7(3) of the Local Government Act 1988, shall not be treated as fulfilled as respects a defined activity to which these Regulations apply if the period stated in the detailed specification by virtue of section 7(3)(c) is less than three years or exceeds seven years.

The Local Government Act 1988 (Defined Activities) (Specified Periods) (Scotland) Regulations 1988 and regulation 4 of the Local Government Act 1988 (Defined Activities) (Competition and Specified Periods) (Scotland) Regulations 1990 shall not apply to work to which these Regulations apply.
5 
The Local Government Act 1988 (Defined Activities) (Specified Periods) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1993 are hereby revoked.
