(1) This Order may be cited as the Contracting Out (Functions in relation to the Welfare Food Scheme) Order 1996.
(2) This Order shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.

(1) The functions of the Secretary of State specified in paragraph (2) which are conferred by any welfare food scheme made under section 13 of the Social Security Act 1988 may be exercised by, or by employees of, such person (if any) as may be authorised in that behalf by the Secretary of State.
(2) The functions referred to in paragraph (1) are—
(a) the function of reimbursement of suppliers of welfare food under the welfare food scheme; and
(b) the functions of requiring and receiving such information or evidence as may be reasonably needed in connection with the administration of any such scheme.
