(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Education (School Information and Prospectuses) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 1st September 1996.
(2) Subject to regulation 2, these Regulations shall have effect in relation to information to be published or otherwise made available by Boards of Governors in the school year in which they come into operation and in each subsequent school year.

Regulation 10 of the Education (School Information and Prospectuses) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1993 shall continue to have effect in respect of any school year before the 1996/97 school year as if these Regulations had not been made.

The Education (School Information and Prospectuses) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1993 shall be amended as provided in regulations 4 to 6.

In regulation 3 (Interpretation) for paragraph (3) there shall be substituted the following paragraph—“
(3) In these Regulations any reference to GNVQ at Intermediate level shall be construed so as to include a reference to the Business and Technology Education Council First Diploma and the City and Guilds of London Institute Diploma of Vocational Education (Intermediate) and any reference to GNVQ at Advanced level shall be construed so as to include a reference to the Business and Technology Education Council National Diploma and the City and Guilds of London Institute Diploma of Vocational Education (National).”

In regulation 10 (Information to be given in the annual report of the Board of Governors to parents and supply of that report) after sub-paragraph (1)(g) for the full-stop there shall be substituted a semicolon and there shall be added the following sub-paragraphs—“
(h) a statement of how the curricular aims of the school have been met in relation to sport in the school year to which the annual report relates;
(i) a list, in alphabetical order, of the sports made available by the school in the school year to which the annual report relates;
(j) in the case of a secondary school, particulars of the steps taken by the Board of Governors in meeting its duties under Part III of the 1989 Order in relation to careers education, including the provision of careers guidance, in the school year to which the annual report relates.”.

In Schedule 2 (Information relating to individual schools (other than nursery schools) to be published by the Board of Governors of the school or by the relevant board on their behalf)—
(a) at the end of paragraph 6(g) the word “and” shall be deleted;
(b) after paragraph 6(h) there shall be added—“
 ; and;
(i) a statement of the amount of time allocated to sport in the school curriculum.”;
(c) in paragraph 13(3) for the words “Grades A” in each place where they occur there shall be substituted “Grades A*”; for the words “grade A” in each place where they occur there shall be substituted “grade A*”;
(d) in paragraph 14(2)(b) for the words “the Youth Training Programme” there shall be substituted “Jobskills”;
(e) after paragraph 16 there shall be inserted the following paragraph—“
16A 
Particulars relating to the provision for sport made by the school including in particular—
(i) the school’s sporting aims;
(ii) the facilities for sports available to pupils at the school; and
(iii) a list, in alphabetical order, of the sports available to pupils at the school.”;
(f) after paragraph 17 there shall be inserted the following paragraph—“
17A 
A statement of the school’s policy on education in relation to drugs.”; and
(g) for paragraph 18 there shall be substituted:“
18 
The main societies and activities open to, and the facilities (other than facilities mentioned in paragraph 16A) available to, pupils at the school, otherwise than as part of the education provided by the school”.
