These Regulations may be cited as the M4 Motorway (Severn Bridge) (Speed Limit) Regulations 1995 and shall come into force on 1st October 1995.

In these Regulations “motorway” has the meaning given in regulation 3(1) of the Motorways Traffic (England and Wales) Regulations 1982.

No person shall drive a motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 40 miles per hour on a carriageway of the length of motorway specified in the Schedule to these Regulations at any time when—
(a) there is placed at the beginning of that carriageway a traffic sign of the size, colour and type shown in the diagram numbered 670 in Schedule 2 to the Traffic Signs Regulations 1994; and
(b) that sign is directed at traffic intending to proceed along that carriageway.

Regulation 3

The M4 Motorway at the Severn Bridge in the counties of Gwent and Avon between a point 13 metres west of the Wye Bridge abutment and a point 58 metres east of the Aust Viaduct abutment (a distance measured along the length of the motorway of approximately 3064 metres).
