These Regulations may be cited as the Metropolitan Police Force (Compensation for Loss of Office) Regulations 1994 and shall come into force on 1st August 1994.

(1) These Regulations apply to eligible persons.
(2) An eligible person is a person—
(a) who immediately before 1st April 1994 was a member of the metropolitan police force holding a qualifying rank otherwise than on temporary promotion to it under regulation 8(1) of the Police (Promotion) Regulations 1979 from a rank below inspector;
(b) who on that date had not attained the age of 54; and
(c) who has after 31st March 1994 and before 1st April 1995 ceased in the circumstances specified in paragraph (4) to be a member of the metropolitan police force.
(3) The qualifying ranks are inspector, chief inspector, superintendent and chief superintendent.
(4) The circumstances referred to in paragraph (2)(c) are that he was, or but for an election under regulation G4 of the Police Pensions Regulations 1987 (election not to pay pension contributions) would have been, entitled to reckon at least 30 years' pensionable service for the purposes of those Regulations, had not attained the age of 54 and was not—
(a) dismissed or required to resign under the Police (Discipline) Regulations 1985; or
(b) required to retire under regulation A19 (efficiency of the force) or A20 (permanent disablement) of the Police Pensions Regulations 1987.

The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis may decide that an eligible person is to be paid by the Receiver for the Metropolitan Police District compensation calculated in accordance with the Schedule.

Regulation 3
1 
The amount of compensation is A × B, where—
 A is one month’s pay, and
 B is the multiplier ascertained from the Table below by reference to the person’s age on his last day of service as a member of the metropolitan police force.

For the purposes of paragraph 1 one month’s pay isC12where
 C is the total as at his last day of service of—
(a) his annual pay ascertained in accordance with regulations 37 (rate of pay) and 39 (London weighting) of the Police Regulations 1987, and
(b) the London allowance payable under regulation 65 of those Regulations.
