(1) This Order may be cited as the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan (Areas) Order 1994.
(2) This Order shall come into force on 1st March 1994 for any purpose set out in regulation 4(1) (Coming into operation of order) of the Local Government Area Changes Regulations 1976.
(3) For all other purposes this Order shall come into force on 1st April 1994.

In this Order, “the map” means the map issued by the Welsh Office and marked “Map referred to in the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan (Areas) Order 1994”.

Those areas which are described in column (1) of the Schedule shall, in so far as districts, communities, electoral divisions of the County of South Glamorgan, wards of districts or communities and petty sessional divisions are specified in respect thereof in columns (2) to (7), be transferred to or form part of such areas.

The Vale of Glamorgan and Cardiff petty sessional divisions shall consist of the Borough of Vale of Glamorgan and the City of Cardiff respectively as altered by article 3.

(1) In this article, “provision” means a provision of a development plan as defined in section 336(1) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 or, as the case may be, the old development plan within the meaning of paragraph 1 of Part III of Schedule 2 to that Act.
(2) Any provision applying to an area transferred by this Order shall continue to apply to that area, notwithstanding the transfer, until replaced by a provision which so applies, and which is expressed to supersede the preserved provision.

Notwithstanding the area changes effected by this Order, the references to the City of Cardiff in paragraphs 3(3), 5(1) and 6 of Schedule 7 to the Cardiff Bay Barrage Act 1993 shall be construed as if its boundary remained as it existed immediately before the passing of that Act.
