(1) This Order may be cited as the Academic Awards and Distinctions (Glasgow Caledonian University) (Scotland) Order of Council 1993 and shall come into force on 1st April 1993.
(2) In this Order “the Act” means the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992.

(1) Glasgow Caledonian University is specified as competent to grant all such awards and distinctions as may be granted in pursuance of subsections (2) and (3) of section 48 of the Act.
(2) The date specified for the purpose of subsection (2)(a) of section 48 of the Act is, in relation to Glasgow Caledonian University,
(a) 1st September 1992 in respect of grants of awards or distinctions in respect of completion of an appropriate course of study or programme of supervised research which either was completed at Glasgow Polytechnic or was approved by Glasgow Polytechnic for the purpose of grants of any awards or distinctions by it; and
(b) 1st April 1993 in respect of grants of awards or distinctions in all other circumstances.
(3) If the name of Glasgow Caledonian University is changed under section 49 of the Act, or under any other power, the competence to grant awards and distinctions arising from the specification in paragraph (1) above shall continue to apply to that institution as renamed.

In the Academic Awards and Distinctions (Scotland) Order of Council 1992, Article 2(1)(b) (specification of Glasgow Polytechnic) is hereby revoked.
