These Regulations may be cited as the Motorways Traffic (England and Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 1992 and shall come into force on 1st July 1992.

The Motorways Traffic (England and Wales) Regulations 1982 shall be further amended in accordance with the following provisions of these Regulations.

(1) Regulation 11 shall be renumbered as paragraph (1) of that regulation and after that provision as so renumbered there shall be inserted the following paragraphs–“
(2) Paragraph (1) above does not apply to a large goods vehicle or to a passenger-carrying vehicle.
(3) In this regulation, “large goods vehicle” and “passenger-carrying vehicle” have the meanings given by section 121 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.”

(1) Regulation 12 shall be amended as follows.
(2) In paragraph (1)–
(a) for sub-paragraph (a) there shall be substituted the following sub-paragraph–“
(a) a goods vehicle having a maximum laden weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes,”; and
(b) For sub-paragraph (d) there shall be substituted the following sub-paragraph–“
(d) a vehicle which is a motor tractor, a light locomotive or a heavy locomotive.”
(3) For paragraph (4) there shall be substituted the following paragraphs–“
(4) Nothing in this regulation shall have effect so as to require a vehicle to change lane during a period when it would not be reasonably practicable for it to do so without involving danger of injury to any person or inconvenience to other traffic.
(5) In this Regulation–
 “goods vehicle” and “maximum laden weight” have the same meanings as in Schedule 6 to the 1984 Act, and
 “overall length” has the meaning given by regulation 3(2) of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986.”

Regulation 13 shall be omitted.

(1) In regulation 3(1), for sub-paragraph (a) there shall be substituted the following sub-paragraph–“
(a) “the 1984 Act” means the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984;”.
(2) For regulation 4, there shall be substituted the following regulation–“

Subject to section 17(5) of the 1984 Act, these Regulations apply to every special road or part of a special road which can be used only by traffic of Class I or II.”
(3) In regulation 11, for the words “section 88(2) of the Road Traffic Act 1972” there shall be substituted the words “section 97(2) of the Road Traffic Act 1988” and for the words “section 85 of the Road Traffic Act 1972” there shall be substituted the words “section 89 of that Act”.
