This Order may be cited as the Education Reform (1989 Order) (Commencement No. 5) Order (Northern Ireland) 1992.
2 
In this Order—
 “the 1986 Order” means the Education and Libraries (Northern Ireland) Order 1986 ;
 “the 1989 Order” means the Education Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989.

The following provisions of the 1989 Order shall come into operation on 1st April 1992—
(a) Article 77(2) to (6) and Article 78;
(b) Articles 127 to 135 and Articles 137 and 138;
(c) Article 166 and Schedule 9 in so far as relating to the definition of “grammar school” contained in Article 2(2) of the 1986 Order; and
(d) Article 167 and Schedule 10 in so far as relating to the definition of “intermediate school” in Article 2(2) of the 1986 Order and Articles 26, 56 (1) and (4) to (6) of the 1986 Order.

Articles 5(2) and 8(1) of the 1989 Order shall come into operation—
(a) on 1st August 1992 in relation to pupils in the first, second and third key stages and in the first year of the fourth key stage; and
(b) on 1st August 1993 in relation to pupils in the second year of the fourth key stage.

Article 6(1) and (2) of and Schedule 2 to the 1989 Order in so far as they relate to the compulsory contributory subjects, Art and Design, Music, and Technology and Design, shall come into operation—
(a) on 1st August 1992 in relation to pupils in the first year of the third key stage;
(b) on 1st August 1993 in relation to pupils in the second year of the third key stage and the first year of the first key stage;
(c) on 1st August 1994 in relation to all other pupils in the first and third key stages, to all pupils in the second key stage and to pupils in the first year of the fourth key stage; and
(d) on 1st August 1995 in relation to pupils in the second year of the fourth key stage.

Article 6(1) and (2) of and Schedule 2 to the 1989 Order in so far as they relate to the compulsory contributory subject Drama shall come into operation—
(a) on 1st August 1994 in relation to pupils in the first year of the fourth key stage; and
(b) on 1st August 1995 in relation to pupils in the second year of the fourth key stage.

Article 6(1) and (2) of and Schedule 2 to the 1989 Order in so far as they relate to the compulsory contributory subjects French, German, Italian, Spanish and Irish and Articles 5(5) and 11(1)(e) of the 1989 Order shall come into operation—
(a) on 1st August 1992 in relation to pupils in the first year of the third key stage;
(b) on 1st August 1993 in relation to pupils in the second year of the third key stage;
(c) on 1st August 1994 in relation to pupils in the third year of the third key stage and in the first year of the fourth key stage; and
(d) on 1st August 1995 in relation to pupils in the second year of the fourth key stage.
