These Regulations may be cited as the Dental Auxiliaries (Amendment) Regulations 1991 and shall come into force—
(a) except for the purposes of regulation 2(2), on the day after the date on which the Regulations are made; and
(b) for the purposes of regulation 2(2), on 1st December 1991.

(1) The Dental Auxiliaries Regulations 1986 shall be amended in accordance with the following paragraphs of this regulation.
(2) In regulation 6 (fees prescribed by the General Dental Council) for “£6.00” there shall be substituted “£10.00”.
(3) In regulation 23 (dental hygienists)—
(a) in paragraph (1) after the words “of any other kind” there shall be added the words “, except that the scaling of teeth under sub-paragraph (b) above may be carried out by a dental hygienist under local infiltration analgesia administered by the dental hygienist or under any local or regional block analgesia administered by a registered dentist”;
(b) in paragraph (2) after the words “has indicated” there shall be inserted the words “in writing”; and
(c) in paragraph (3) for the words from “Except” to “dental work” there shall be substituted the words “A dental hygienist shall administer local infiltration analgesia”.
