This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989 (Commencement No. 3) Order 1990.

The provisions of the Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989 specified in the Schedule to this Order shall come into force on 1st December 1990.

Article 2


 Provisions of the Act Subject matter
(1) Section 6 Section inserting provisions concerning the introduction of compulsory training courses for riders of motor cycles in the Road Traffic Act 1988
(2) Section 7 (so far as it relates to those paragraphs of Schedule 3 to the Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989 referred to in items (4) to (8) below) Provision giving effect to certain paragraphs in Schedule 3 to the Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989 (Driving Licences: Minor, Consequential and Further Amendments)
(3) Section 16 (so far as it relates to that part of Schedule 6 to the Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989 referred to in item (9) below) Provision giving effect to specified provision in Schedule 6 to the Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989 (Repeals)

(4) Paragraph 6 Provision substituting the words “motor bicycle” for the words “two-wheeled motor cycle” where the latter occur in section 23 of the Road Traffic Act 1988
(5) Paragraph 10 Provision substituting the words “motor bicycle without a side-car” for the words “motor cycle having two wheels only” in section 97(3)(d) of the Road Traffic Act 1988
(6) Paragraph 11 (c) Provision making consequential amendment to section 98(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 in the light of the introduction of compulsory training courses for riders of motor cycles, and substituting the words “motor bicycle without a side-car” for the words “motor cycle” in paragraph (b) of that provision
(7) Paragraph 15 (g) Provision inserting definition of “approved training course for motor cyclists” and of “prescribed certificate of completion” in section 108(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988
(8) Paragraphs 18(b)(c) and (d) Provisions making consequential amendments to the Road Traffic Act 1988 in the light of the introduction of compulsory training courses for riders of motor cycles.
