(1) This Order may be cited as the Health and Medicines Act 1988 (Commencement No. 4) Order 1989.
(2) In this Order, “the 1988 Act” means the Health and Medicines Act 1988.

(1) 1st April 1990 is the day appointed for the coming into force of section 9 of the 1988 Act (reduction of practitioner’s pension on re-employment after attaining the age of 65).
(2) 9th June 1989 is the day appointed for the coming into force of –
(a) section 8 of the 1988 Act (retirement of practitioners) except for –
(i) in subsection (1), paragraph (a),
(ii) in subsection (2), the words “(a) or”;
(b) section 25(1) of the 1988 Act (consequential amendments) so far as it relates to paragraphs 4 and 11 of Schedule 2 to the 1988 Act, and to paragraphs 1 and 9 of that Schedule to the extent that they have effect for the purposes of those paragraphs;
