These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Fuel (Lead Content of Petrol) (Amendment) Regulations 1989 and shall come into force on 24th April 1989.

The Motor Fuel (Lead Content of Petrol) Regulations 1981 are hereby further amended in accordance with the following provisions of these Regulations.

In regulation 4(2), for sub-paragraph (a) there shall be substituted the following sub-paragraph–“
(a) if the petrol is leaded, it is tested by the method prescribed in the British Standard which is entitled “Method for determination of lead content of gasoline by the iodine monochloride method” and was published on 31st May 1988 under the number BS 5657: 1988 (ISO 3830: 1981);”.

For regulation 7 (information as to the composition of petrol) there shall be substituted the following regulation–“

Subject to regulation 8, every petrol pump in a petrol filling station which is used or intended to be used to deliver petrol shall be marked by the occupier of the filling station as follows–
(a) in the case of leaded petrol, in accordance with the British Standard which is entitled “Specification for leaded petrol (gasoline) for motor vehicles” and was published on 31st May 1988 under the number BS 4040: 1988; and
(b) in the case of unleaded petrol, in accordance with the British Standard which is entitled “Specification for unleaded petrol (gasoline) for motor vehicles” and was published on 31st May 1988 under the number BS 7070: 1988.”.
