(1) This Order may be cited as the Health and Medicines Act 1988 (Commencement No. 3) Order 1989.
(2) In this Order –
 “the 1977 Act” means the National Health Service Act 1977;
 “the 1978 Act” means the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978;
 “the 1988 Act” means the Health and Medicines Act 1988.

(1) 7th March 1989 is the day appointed for the coming into force of each provision of the 1988 Act specified in column 1 of Schedule 1 to this Order for the purposes specified in relation to it in column 3 of that Schedule.
(2) 1st April 1989 is the day appointed for the coming into force of –
(a) each provision of the 1988 Act specified in column 1 of Schedule 2 to this Order for the purposes specified in relation to it in column 3 of that Schedule;
(b) section 25(2) of the 1988 Act (repeals) so far as it relates to –
(i) sections 37(a), 78(1) and 79(1)(a) of, and Schedules 12 and 15 to, the 1977 Act,
(ii) sections 4(1), 70(1) and 71(1)(a) of, and Schedules 11 and 16 to, the 1978 Act, and
(iii) paragraph 2 in Part I of, and paragraph 5 in Part II of, Schedule 1 to the Health and Social Security Act 1984.
