(1) These Regulations may be cited as the National Health Service (Charges for Drugs and Appliances) Amendment Regulations 1988 and shall come into force on1st April 1988.
(2) In these Regulations “the principal Regulations” means the National Health Service (Charges for Drugs and Appliances) Regulations 1980().

(1) In regulation 7(1) (exemptions) of the principal Regulations after sub-paragraph (a) there is added the following sub-paragraph:—“
(aa) a person who has not attained the age of 19 years and is receiving qualifying full-time education within the meaning of paragraph 7 of Schedule 12 to the Act;”()
(2) For each amount specified in column (3) of Schedule 1 to these Regulations, where it appears in the provision of the principal Regulations specified in relation to it in column (1) of that Schedule (the subject matter of which is indicated in column (2) of that Schedule), there is substituted the amount specified in relation to it in column (4) of that Schedule.

Regulation 2 of these Regulations applies—
(a) in so far as it amends regulation 3(1) (aa) of the principal Regulations, where the month referred to in that provision commences on or after 1st April 1988;
(b) in so far as it amends regulation 9(5) of the principal Regulations, where the application referred to in regulation 9(1) of those Regulations is received on or after 1st April 1988;
(c) in any other case, to drugs and appliances supplied on or after 1st April 1988.

The following provisions of the National Health Service (Charges for Drugs and Appliances) Amendment Regulations 1987() are hereby revoked:—
(a) regulation 2 and Schedule 1, except to the extent that they amend Schedule 2 to the principal Regulations;
(b) regulation 3(1)(a), (b) and (d).
