This Order may be cited as the Combined Probation Areas (Northumbria) Order 1988 and shall come into force on 1st April 1988, except that for the purpose of making any appointment under article 3(2) below to have effect from 1st April 1988 this Order shall come into force forthwith.

That part of Schedule 2 to the Combined Probation Areas Order 1986 which relates to the Northumbria Probation Committee shall be amended by —
(a) omitting the entry in column 1 in respect of the group of petty sessions areas comprising Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Coquetdale and Glendale Ward; and
(b) inserting in alphabetical order —
(i) in column 1 “Berwick-Upon-Tweed” and corresponding to this in column 3 “1”, and
(ii) in column 1 “Coquetdale” and corresponding to this in column 3 “1”.

(1) The two justices appointed to be members of the Northumbria Probation Committee by the justices for the group of petty sessional divisions comprising Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Coquetdale and Glendale Ward before the two divisions of Berwick-Upon-Tweed and Glendale Ward were combined to form a new division known as the Berwick-Upon-Tweed division shall cease to hold office as members of that Committee but shall be eligible for re-appointment.
(2) The justices for each of the new division of Berwick-Upon-Tweed and the existing division of Coquetdale shall appoint one of their number to serve, with effect from 1st April 1988, as a member of the Northumbria Probation Committee; and the two members so appointed shall hold office until 30th November 1989 and shall then cease to hold office but shall be eligible for re-appointment.
