(1) This Order may be cited as the Cleveland and Durham (County Boundaries) Order 1988.
(2) This Order shall come into force on 12th January 1989 for any purpose set out in regulation 4(1) (coming into operation of order) of the Local Government Area Changes Regulations 1976.
(3) For all other purposes this Order shall come into force on 1st April 1989.

In this Order “boundary map” means the map prepared by the Department of the Environment, marked “Map of the Cleveland and Durham (County Boundaries) Order 1988” and deposited in accordance with regulation 5 of the Local Government Area Changes Regulations 1976.

The part of the county of Durham and the district and parish of Sedgefield which is marked A1 on the boundary map shall be transferred to —
(a) the county of Cleveland and the Preston, Whitton and Wolviston electoral division of that county,
(b) the borough of Stockton-on-Tees and the Whitton ward of that district;
(c) the parish of Grindon;
(d) the Teeside petty sessional division;
(e) the Central Cleveland Coroner’s district.

The part of the county of Cleveland, the borough of Stockton-on-Tees and the parish of Grindon which is marked A2 on the boundary map shall be transferred to —
(a) the county of Durham and the Sedgefield electoral division of that county;
(b) the district of Sedgefield and the Sedgefield ward of that district;
(c) the parish of Sedgefield;
(d) the Sedgefield petty sessional division;
(e) the South Durham Coroner’s district.

Any provisions of a structure plan, an old development plan (within the meaning of paragraph 2 of Schedule 7 to the Town and Country Planning Act 1971) or a local plan made or adopted by a county or district council which apply immediately before 1st April 1989 to an area transferred by this Order shall continue to have effect in relation to that area as if they were part of such a plan made or adopted by the council of the county or district to which that area is transferred.
