This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping Act 1965 (Guernsey) Order 1988 and shall come into force on 1st January 1989.

It is hereby directed that sections 1, 3, 7(1) and 8 of, and the entries relating to the Merchant Shipping Act 1894 in Schedule 1 to, the Merchant Shipping Act 1965 shall extend to the Bailiwick of Guernsey and the territorial waters adjacent thereto with the exceptions, adaptations and modifications specified in the Schedule to this Order.

The Merchant Shipping Act 1965 (Guernsey) Order 1969 is hereby revoked.

SCHEDULE
Article 2
1 
Any reference to an enactment shall be construed, unless the contrary intention appears, as a reference to it as it has effect in the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
2 
Any reference to the commencement of the Act shall be construed as a reference to the coming into force of this Order.
3 

(1) In section 1(1), for the words “the Board of Trade by statutory instrument” there shall be substituted the words “the States Board of Administration”.
(2) In section 1(4), for the words from “Board of Trade” to the end there shall be substituted the words “States Board of Administration”.
(3) In section 1(6) —
(a) for the words “Board of Trade” in both places where they occur there shall be substituted the words “States Board of Administration”; and
(b) for the words “United Kingdom” there shall be substituted the words “Bailiwick of Guernsey”.
(4) Section 1(7) shall be omitted.
4 
Section 8(4) shall be omitted.
