(1) This Order may be cited as the Transfer of Functions (British Museum (Natural History)) Order 1988.
(2) This Order shall come into force on 25th November 1988.

(1) There are hereby transferred to the Lord President of the Council the functions of the Secretary of State under—
(a) section 8(2)(b) of the British Museum Act 1963 (appointment of one of the trustees); and
(b) section 10(2) of that Act with respect to the amendment of Part II of Schedule 3 to that Act (authorised repositories).
(2) Accordingly—
(a) in section 8(2)(b) of that Act, for the words from “by” to “on” there shall be substituted the words “by the Lord President of the Council on”; and
(b) in section 10(2) of that Act, for the words from the beginning to “may” there shall be substituted the words “The Lord President of the Council may”.
(3) This Order shall not affect the validity of anything done (or having effect as if done) by or in relation to the Secretary of State before the coming into force of this Order.
