(1) These regulations may be cited as the National Health Service (Standing Advisory Committees) (Amendment) Regulations 1986 and shall come into operation on 1st April 1986.
(2) In these regulations any reference to a numbered regulation is a reference to the regulation bearing that number in the National Health Service (Standing Advisory Committees) Regulations 1981.

In regulation 5(3) (termination of term of office) there shall be made the following amendments—
(a) the words “The President of the Royal College of General Practitioners;” shall be deleted; and
(b) the words after “The Chairman of the Council of the British Dental Association” shall be deleted and the following substituted—“

 The Chairman of Council of the Royal College of General Practitioners;
 The President of the Faculty of Community Medicine;
 The President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain;
 The President of the Royal College of Radiologists;
 The Dean of the Faculty of Anaesthetists; and
 The Dean of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine.
”.

In regulation 6 (appointment of deputies) there shall be made the following amendments—
(a) in paragraph (1) for the word “appointed” there shall be substituted the word “nominated”;
(b) for paragraph (2) there shall be substituted the following paragraph—“
(2) Any person nominated pursuant to paragraph (1) above may, if subsequently appointed by the Secretary of State, act as a member of the Advisory Committee of which the office-holder is a member in the place of that office-holder until either—
(a) the relevant office-holder ceases to hold office, or
(b) the Secretary of State notifies such person in writing that his appointment pursuant to this paragraph is terminated,whichever is the first to occur.”;and
(c) after paragraph (2) there shall be inserted the following additional paragraph—“
(3) Without prejudice to the generality of paragraph (2)(b) of this regulation the Secretary of State may in particular terminate such appointment at the request of the relevant office-holder if that office-holder either nominates some other person to be his deputy or proposes to the Secretary of State that he wishes to attend future meetings of the Advisory Committee himself.”.
