This Order may be cited as the 
Hallmarking (Exempted Articles) Order 1986
and shall come into operation otherwise than for the purposes of 
Article 2(c), on 10th November 1986, and for
the purposes of Article 2(c),
on 11th May 1987.

Part II
of Schedule 1 to the Act shall be amended as
follows:—
(a) in paragraphs
11, 13 and 
14 at the beginning there shall be inserted
the words “Subject to paragraph
14AA below,”;
(b) in paragraphs
12 and 14A
at the beginning there shall be inserted the words “Subject to 
paragraph 14AA and”;
(c) in paragraph
13 after the words “any article”
 there shall be added the words “, except an article
made of chainwork,”; and
(d) after paragraph
14A, there shall be inserted the following
paragraph:—“
14AA 

Paragraphs 11 to 14A above do not apply to
any article in which solder containing precious metal is used unless the solder
is of a standard of fineness equivalent to that which would be required under 
section 4(3) of this Act if the article were
submitted to an assay office for hallmarking.”
