This Order may be cited as the Senior Officers (Metropolitan Counties and Northumbria Police Area) (Continuation in Rank) Order 1985 and shall come into operation on 1st April 1986.

(1) Where, immediately before the date of coming into operation of this Order, a person holds senior rank in the police force maintained for a metropolitan county or for the Northumbria police area, he shall, subject to any other enactment, continue as from that date to hold that rank in that force notwithstanding that the police authority by which he was appointed or promoted thereto has ceased to exist and that its functions, under section 37 of the Local Government Act 1985, have become vested in a police authority created under Part IV of that Act.
(2) In this Article, “senior rank”, in relation to a police force, means a rank in that force above the rank of chief superintendent.
