This order, which may be cited as the African Swine Fever (Compensation) Order 1980, applies throughout Great Britain and shall come into operation on 4th March 1980.

Where, under the power conferred by section 17 of the Diseases of Animals Act 1950 as applied to african swine fever by the African Swine Fever Order 1980, the Minister causes any animal to be slaughtered, he shall pay compensation as follows:—
(a) where the animal was affected with african swine fever the compensation shall be one half of the value of the animal immediately before it became so affected;
(b) in every other case the compensation shall be the value of the animal immediately before it was slaughtered.
